Community Awareness

Our 2 programs build empowerment. Strength comes from knowledge and building relationships. Find us exhibiting at a local event!

Land acknowledgement

We see the displacement and genocide of Native Peoples by colonial settlers as harm thay may never be forgotten. The work of Cascadia Stack takes place on the lands where people once lived sustainably, with pride and harmony with nature. We strive for respecting the Native lands and traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Chinook, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla and many other tribes and bands. The communities and summer encampments along the Columbia and Willamette rivers were the place of harvest and home amongst the plentiful natural resources of the area for thousands of years.

Diversity and Inclusion is a major focus of our programs. Read our principles in entirety at this link below.

Increase mental stamina and confidence.

Adapting to climate change is our number one priority.
We do this with climate mental health peer support and climate preparedness skill building.

Learn with your peers, be accountable- together

While our programs encourage the individual mental and physical stamina and preparedness, it is the group connections that we build that can keep us on track to become better prepared at the household and neighborhood level. Encouragement is empowerment.

How does climate change make you feel?

Join Tamara Staton, Stack’s Education and Resilience Lead on the banks of the Crooked River in Central Oregon as she reflects on the power of nature to inspire perspective and perseverance in the face of obstacles.

  • Substance abuse

  • Aggression and violence

  • Ecoanxiety or ecogrief is the feeling of anxiety, sorrow, or mourning at the current and projected impacts of climate change

  • Strains on social relationships

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most frequently observed impacts of natural disaster events

  • Community displacement and migration can occur when entire communities face relocation due to climate change or extreme events. Many people lack the capacity and resources to relocate, which causes additional mental health burdens. Instances of PTSD are likely to double in these situations.

Our purpose

We host peer support gatherings teaching resilience skills, addressing eco-anxiety. We teach basic preparedness, seeking to empower our Latinx neighbors and friends.

Our mission

Our mission is to engage with our community in a way that inspires resilient action to adapt and prepare for the changing climate and the threat of emergencies.

Our vision

We envision neighborhood-level support group gatherings, normalizing self-care, throughout the Cascadia bioregion. At Oregon’s Community Resilience Hubs, peer support gatherings will be taught by trained educators and offered for free, incorporating ancestral knowledge with science, civic engagement and involved families, uniting all for the shared love of Northwest lands.

Our Values

Centering community.

Envisioning a living economy.

Accepting criticism, inviting conversation.

Supporting a just transition to a resilient economy.

Encouraging those that confess to still learning.
